Last weekend, I donated our white canvas esparilles and created event for the girls from our children's shelter. This was a "design your own party". It was intended to be a bright, sunshine-y day infused with some happiness. These girls were shy, uncertain and unclear on what to do. After arming them with their own pair of Gwennie espadrilles, and a stash of colorful pens, they went for it! It was amazing to see all the colorful creations these girls came up with! By the end of the afternoon, they were all wearing their shoes, sharing their designs and creative expressions. We gave them a bit of happiness, some fun and most important a bit of confidence. My daughter is a constant source of inspiration for Valentina. Her artistry, creativity and confidence in wearing expressive styles (think two different shoes and striped over the knee socks) is a continuous influence to my designs. Both my kids artwork is displayed all over the house and in their rooms. This is a great way to create a gallery that is dynamic and can change when new pieces arrive. I like the modern wooden grid and metal grips that can move. For our next house, this is a must have!

Color is a key foundation of Valentina. Our ballet flats, espadrilles and rainbow Stella sandals were all inspired by some color combination I found in interior design & fashion. Well this is a prime example of how a color moment stops me. Found again on Pinterest (ok it's my new obsession) they are simple but make a statement. But the juicy color combos are inspiring and even more, I would love these stacked in my living room next to my couch as a side table.

I stumbled upon this chandelier in Pinterest. I love both the contrasting texture, colors and paper elements of it. I try to design in this manner where things are mixed up a bit but go well together. Spring '13 collection is a mash up of colors, textures and overall fun! It may be a year away but I am excited! I am obssessed with kitchens & dining areas. We know it is the heart of the home but I also believe it is one space where creativity can really shine. It is a casual space where friends and family come together and you are not confined to rules or parameters - it is THE space where creatitivy, individuality and self expression can really shine in your home. Our espadrilles, ballet flats are just as colorful and self expressive as these kitchens. These themes are very Valentina. I found these on Coco Kelley - a lifestyle site I love. Yummy rooms!
